Andronicus II Palaeologus, with Michael IX, 1282-1328. Assarion (Bronze, 20 mm, 2.12 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, 1294-1320. Half-length figure of Archangel Michael, nimbate, wearing tunic, breastplate and sagion, holding spear in his right hand and globus in his left. Rev. Bust of Christ facing, nimbate, flanked by IC - XC, placing his hands gently on the heads of Andronicus II, kneeling facing on the left, raising his right hand in blessing and of Michael IX, kneeling facing on the right, raising his right hand in blessing.
